Snake, Rattle & Roll!…

Maybe not ‘roll’…more like Chop!

Yikes! The first rattlesnake of the season….Todd stumbled upon it while feeding the birds. His attention to detail probably saved his life! I don’t think I would have seen it!

The snake was a good 2 + feet long.

After the rattler was spotted, our dinner guests scrambled for their cameras…My mom was frantically trying to get the dogs and cat in the house. Todd gets the shovel. I get the close up….

Before we had time to consider any options…Todd went into action…Whack! Off with his head! ( terribly sad, but necessary)…Honestly, it’s either him (snake) or the dogs/cat/us! I seriously don’t want to experience a rattlesnake bite inflicted upon any of my family, friends or pets! From what I’ve heard, it is an incredibly painful and effed up experience- possibly deadly, certainly to pets!

After the execution, the head went into a frenzy for several minutes- flicking it’s tongue and flopping around- truly horrifying!

Our freaked out dinner guests had to examine the remains before Todd threw the snake on the grill to add some local fare to the night’s BBQ!

Just kidding!

Cooking Up a Perfect Saturday!

Ok… I may be getting a little carried away! But, yesterday I experienced one of the best BBQ’s Todd has hosted! With the help of good neighbors and family it was a day that had to be recorded for posterity!

Todd fired up his pit around 10:30 am…

The Menu:

Mesquite grilled Tri Tip with Santa Maria Rub, served with fresh tortillas and Todd’s famous chili relish, and Rondi’s soon-to-be-famous ‘gut bomb’ beans! The meal was made perfect and complete with the addition of our neighbor, Lori’s, incredible appetizer and desert….

No Lori!…..That’s exactly why you should do a cookbook!!! Your culinary skills are incredible…thank you for sharing!

Baily enjoyed as wellAs Todd was inside preparing the meat…

Todd threw the meat on the grill about 4:30

Ahhhh…..and a few margarita’s later….

PERFECTION!!

And Baily’s ready for dinner!

And finally, the ultimate desert!….

Thanks to Rod and Lori Erikson, Mom, Doug, Donna, Todd, Cooper, Baily, Lulu and even Zoe, for making Saturday, March 20 a glorious day in Todd’s Backyard! Now, I hope I can find some left overs….my mouth is watering!

Salmon ala Todd….A delicious weekend!

I waited for 2 weeks,  enduring 10 days of a Michigan work trip, to get back home and enjoy a beautiful warm weekend! BBQ, wine and sun soaking into my cold, snow weary bones!  Unfortunately,  I seem to have brought the cold weather back to Arizona with me!  The entire weekend was cold, rainy, windy….the worst of Southern Arizona weather! And it still rains….58 degrees…ugh!  But Todd did come through with one of his gourmet meals!

Pecan wood grilled/smoked salmon! I ate  left overs for lunch today!

I will be going into more details on another post, about Todd’s incredible BBQ- A Santa Maria style pit, equipped with a adjustable rack that sits over an open flame. He uses either mesquite or pecan to grill!  Yum! My weekend was worth all the bad weather, just for a bite of Salmon ala Todd!
