A Cool Evening!

Well, I think the desert summer has finally phased into the desert fall….and it’s cool! Really! The temp is dipping down to the low 70’s! Now, I know that doesn’t sound very cold to some folks, but the sudden shift in temps is a bit of a shock to us desert dwellers! Our outdoor apparel has changed….We had to trade our shorts and flip-flops for sweats and slippers.  Sitting on the porch, enjoying Todd’s Backyard is perfect this time of year. The crisp air, the earlier sunsets,  the smell of wood fires in outdoor fireplaces. The other night was a great example…

The harvest moon came out early, while the sun was still setting, providing  the perfect scenery for our 5:30 happy hour!

While the moon was rising to the East, the sun was setting in the West…

And looking just South, we got this view…

The recent storms have really made this fall somewhat unusual. The rain is what really cooled us down all of a sudden. And with it, brought some spectacular  visual leftovers! We hope it will be a wet winter, as it has been a wet year, since the beginning of last spring! Todd’s backyard may turn into a prickly rain-forest! Now, that might be cool!

Things are Heating Up!

It finally hit 100 degrees last week. All the spring time blossoms have shriveled up. Summer is finally here! It’s 9 o’clock in the morning and the air conditioner kicks on… It’s the time of year when we already start looking forward to cooler days of the winter to come.

With the heat comes the buzz…not only from the gallons of refreshing sangria that will be consumed, but from these little guys..

You know it’s summer when the cicadas start buzzing. They really get going when Monsoon season starts around the first of July.

The heat tends to ruffle the feathers of many backyard residents. Puffing up to catch any breeze that might give them a little relief.

Or, some just hop in Todd’s ‘water feature’ to cool off!

This is likely to be a popular spot this summer!

Zoe gets cool with her new summer do….

And Lulu soaks up the heat with her desert ‘chi-yotie’ zest for the sun!

The summer in Todd’s Backyard will be long and hot, but when the monsoons come it will cool off a bit. Until then, we can dream of cooler days, perhaps even Christmas…

With these two turtle doves hanging out to remind us the holiday season will be here before you know it!
